10:00am

Training Classes (Optional)
We will have two training sessions in the morning, from 10 am to 12 pm. These are optional programs, and mainly targeted for participants with some basic data analysis skills and experiences.

Analyzing household survey data using Stata
We will present how the household survey sampling works, discuss best practices, and hands-on training on some analysis examples. We expect the participants to have Stata installed on their laptop and experiences regularly using it, since we will not have time to cover the basic of how to operate Stata.

Linking household survey with geospatial data using QGIS
We will first present some introduction to QGIS interface (in case you’re not familiar with), followed by hands-on training on how to link the household survey data with geospatial data layers from multiple sources. We expect the participants to have some experiences using a GIS software.

Carlo and Chris will walk you through the dataset we'll be analyzing, present some examples, and discuss what you can (and, more importantly, can't) do with this data. Be prepared to ask any questions! We will distribute the data files in a USB flash drive (complimentary; yours to keep). You can also download the dataset from IFPRI Dataverse at http://dx.doi.org/10.7910/DVN/PUK1P7.
Re. the BIO data layers under the Geospatial Data and Maps / Raster, each data layers corresponds:
  1. BIO1 = Annual Mean Temperature
  2. BIO2 = Mean Diurnal Range (Mean of monthly (max temp - min temp))
  3. BIO3 = Isothermality (P2/P7) (* 100)
  4. BIO4 = Temperature Seasonality (standard deviation *100)
  5. BIO5 = Max Temperature of Warmest Month
  6. BIO6 = Min Temperature of Coldest Month
  7. BIO7 = Temperature Annual Range (P5-P6)
  8. BIO8 = Mean Temperature of Wettest Quarter
  9. BIO9 = Mean Temperature of Driest Quarter
  10. BIO10 = Mean Temperature of Warmest Quarter
  11. BIO11 = Mean Temperature of Coldest Quarter
  12. BIO12 = Annual Precipitation
  13. BIO13 = Precipitation of Wettest Month
  14. BIO14 = Precipitation of Driest Month
  15. BIO15 = Precipitation Seasonality (Coefficient of Variation)
  16. BIO16 = Precipitation of Wettest Quarter
  17. BIO17 = Precipitation of Driest Quarter
  18. BIO18 = Precipitation of Warmest Quarter
  19. BIO19 = Precipitation of Coldest Quarter
